DEP Hosts Kick-off Ceremony for Ehrenfeld Reclamation Project
 
U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Acting Secretary Patrick McDonnell led a special event today to mark the beginning of work to remediate and reclaim an abandoned mine site in the community of Ehrenfeld, Cambria County. Work on the 62-acre site will also bring 40 jobs to laid-off coal workers.

Pennsylvania Selected to Host State Transportation Innovation Council Roundtable Discussion
 
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Leslie S. Richards today joined US Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Administrator Gregory Nadeau and FHWA Division Administrator Renee Sigel to showcase the Pennsylvania State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC). Pennsylvania was chosen to host because of the success of the Pennsylvania STIC.

Governor Wolf Visits Centers of Excellence, Touts Strides Made in 2016-17 Budget to Combat Opioid Epidemic
 
Harrisburg, PA -- Governor Tom Wolf joined PA Department of Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas at two Centers of Excellence today to discuss the significant strides made in the 2016-17 budget to combat the opioid abuse and heroin use epidemic in Pennsylvania. The Wolf Administration successfully secured the necessary funding for DHS to open 20 Centers of Excellence (COEs) statewide by October 1, 2016.

On Friday, U.S Secretary of Education Dr. John King and state Education Secretary Pedro A. Rivera met with a group of the commonwealth's education stakeholders to talk about Pennsylvania's work in implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
 
ESSA is the new federal law, passed with bipartisan support in Congress and signed by President Obama in December 2015, which replaced No Child Left Behind. The law presents a once-in-a-decade opportunity to rethink key aspects of education policy and practice. Pennsylvania has been a leader in engaging a diverse group of stakeholders including teachers, principals, superintendents, policy makers, civil rights groups, education advocates, and community stakeholders, to gather their perspectives when developing the Pennsylvania State Plan, which will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in 2017.

Wolf Administration Distributes Zika Prevention Kits for Pregnant Women Kits include products that can help protect against the Zika virus
 
Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Health today launched the commonwealth's latest initiative to help protect Pennsylvanians from the Zika virus. Prevention Kits for Pregnant Women are being distributed to provide education about the virus and list the steps that can be taken to avoid mosquito bites, as well as prevent the insects from multiplying around homes.
