VIDEO: DEP, Coal Alliance Urge Miners to put Safety First, No Shortcuts
 
Harrisburg - The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance (PCA), today launched a new safety campaign that urges coal miners not to take shortcuts that could lead to dangerous consequences while on the job. The video, introduced by Governor Tom Wolf, debuted at today's meeting of the Board of Coal Mine Safety in Ebensburg, Cambria County.

Farmers Market Nutrition Program Connects Residents with Fresh, Nutritious Produce
 
To remind residents of the importance of the consumption of nutritious healthy produce, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Aging Secretary Teresa Osborne signed a joint designation this afternoon in recognition of June as the official start of the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) in Pennsylvania. While visiting the PA Farmers Open Air Market at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, the two cabinet secretaries encouraged eligible residents - particularly seniors and those individuals who participate in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program - to redeem their FMNP vouchers by November 30.

PA's Farmland Preservation Program Reaches New Milestone: Preserves 5,000th Farm
 
Bird-in-Hand, PA - With the addition of 26 new farms, Pennsylvania's farmland preservation reached a new milestone today, surpassing the 5,000-farm mark. Pennsylvania's program leads the nation in the number of farms and the number of farm acres that have been preserved in perpetuity for agricultural production.

Environmental and education advocates gathered at the State Capitol Building today to honor three Pennsylvania schools that were named 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS). The School District of Jenkintown, Park Forest Elementary School (State College, PA), and Slippery Rock University were celebrated for receiving the prestigious, national honor at a press conference.

Governor Tom Wolf today recognized police officers across the Commonwealth for reversing more than 1,000 opioid overdoses in over one year. The Wolf Administration made Naloxone available to State Police and other law enforcement and emergency personnel in April 2015.
