Corrections to Save $23 Million by Replacing Two Older Prisons
 
Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel today announced that the agency will replace two older state prisons by opening the newly-constructed State Correctional Institution at Benner Township - a move that will save taxpayers $23 million in fiscal year 2013-14 and more in future years.

Corbett Administration Reduces DCED Interest Rates to Spark Economic Growth and Job Creation
 
To address a key recommendation of the Governor's Manufacturing Advisory Council (GMAC) the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) today announced that it has reduced the interest rates of five business loan programs to encourage new economic growth and job creation.

Department of Health Offers Free Flu Vaccinations at 2013 PA Farm Show
 
The Department of Health will offer free influenza vaccines at the 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show, Jan. 5-11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Jan. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. To date, influenza cases have been reported in all Pennsylvania counties with a number of nursing homes experiencing outbreaks.

1,000-Pound Butter Sculpture Showcasing Local Agriculture Products Unveiled at 2013 PA Farm Show
 
A sculpture made from nearly 1,000 pounds of butter was unveiled today at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, paying tribute to Pennsylvania's diverse agriculture industry. The sculpture, sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, features PA Preferred, the official brand of agriculture products grown or made in Pennsylvania.

Governor Corbett Accuses NCAA of Illegal Sanctions against Penn State
 
Governor Tom Corbett today announced that he is suing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), calling its sanctions against Penn State University arbitrary and illegal, saying they would result in irreparable economic damage to the university, the commonwealth and its citizens.

Pa. Turnpike Reminds Motorists of Toll Increase Starting Sunday
 
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) reminds motorists that toll rates will increase Jan. 5 by 12 percent for cash customers and 2 percent for E-ZPass customers. The new rates take effect at 12:01 a.m. this Sunday. With the increase, E-ZPass customers who now see about a 25-percent savings on tolls will save at least 35 percent compared to cash.
