Pennsylvania Department of Health Kicks Off 2016 Get Smart Competition for Young Artists and Writers
 
Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Health today joined national and state-based partners to support and promote the appropriate use of antibiotics by launching the fourth-annual Get Smart Competition for Young Artists and Writers. Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine kicked off the competition today by presenting awards to 2015 competition winners and encouraging the public to help spread the word about the 2016 competition.

Governor Wolf's Week, 3/13-3/19/16
 
Governor Wolf this week continued to fight to move Pennsylvania forward by creating jobs and making government more responsive and innovative. Governor Wolf outlined his government reform plan which calls on the legislature to ban gifts, reform contracting, increase lobbying oversight, and increase transparency. He also met with advocates and urged the legislature to pass medical marijuana legislation in order to provide important medical relief to patients and families across the commonwealth. On Wednesday, the Republican legislature sent another out of balance budget to the governor.

Three religious leaders were criminally charged today for taking part in an alleged conspiracy that allowed more than 80 victims to be sexually abused by Stephen Baker, a proven child predator, and put hundreds of other children in danger.

This week, Governor Wolf signed an executive order that ensures employees under the governor's jurisdiction will be paid no less than $10.15 an hour. In addition to signing the executive order, Governor Tom Wolf also called upon legislators to pass a minimum wage increase for all Pennsylvania workers. He also took important steps that will improve and strengthen workforce development in Pennsylvania by aligning workforce development efforts with the private sector, strengthening connections between public sector efforts, and making the workforce development process more inclusive.
