Governor Corbett Presented 2013 Biotechnology Industry Organization Governor of the Year Award
 
Chicago - Governor Tom Corbett was honored today by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) with its 2013 BIO Governor of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership and commitment to strengthening the biotechnology and public health sectors within Pennsylvania. Corbett received the award today at the 2013 BIO International Convention in Chicago, Ill.

Governor Corbett Visits Flight 93 Memorial, Donates Trees to Honor Fallen Heroes
 
Shanksville, Somerset County - Governor Tom Corbett today visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County to honor the sacrifice of the passengers and crew by presenting donated trees for the site. This is the second year of a major volunteer reforestation effort at the memorial that will eventually result in 150,000 new trees at the site.

Auditor General DePasquale Says $35.4 million Owed in Corporate Taxes Could Offset Budget Cuts
 
Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today announced auditors found corporate tax return errors amounting to $35.4 million in unpaid taxes owed to the commonwealth. DePasquale sent a letter today to Revenue Secretary Daniel Meuser about the findings and urging him to aggressively collect all taxes that were underpaid, return the overpayments and send the difference to the state treasury so it can be factored into the on-going state budget debate.

Officials Dedicate SCI Benner Township, Newest State Prison
 
Harrisburg - Corrections Secretary John Wetzel and General Services Secretary Sheri Phillips today joined about 200 local, state and federal officials and dignitaries to formally dedicate the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township, Centre County. The new, state-of-the-art prison, which is situated on the grounds of the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, is scheduled to begin housing adult male inmates within the next few weeks.

Governor Corbett Highlights $1.3 Million Increase in Funding to Support Domestic Violence Programs
 
Harrisburg - Governor Tom Corbett visited the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg today, where he was joined by local advocates and leaders in support of his proposal to increase funding to domestic violence programs by $1.3 million. "For decades, we have been struggling to confront a danger to the men and women of Pennsylvania that can exist inside their own homes," Corbett said. "That's why, this year, I have proposed an increase of $1.3 million dollars in funding for Pennsylvania's Domestic Violence Program."

Hamburg - Governor Tom Corbett today joined officials from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to help open the agency's new Eastern Area Office in Berks County. "The staff in PEMA's Eastern Area Office has been incredibly busy in responding to Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Sandy," Corbett said. "They are a vital link between county government and the state in emergency response and recovery in Pennsylvania."

Pennsylvanians are now one step closer to having real choice and convenience as wine, spirits and beer consumers, Governor Tom Corbett said today after the House passed House Bill 790, the liquor privatization bill, by a vote of 105-90.
