ADVISORY - LACKAWANNA COUNTY - Governor Shapiro and Fire Commissioner Cook to Visit Dickson City Fire Department, Highlight Support for First Responders After Lehigh Valley Hospital Fire

Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook will thank first responders for their heroic work and quick action last week during a massive fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Dickson City and highlight the Shapiro Administration's investments to support fire departments across the Commonwealth.

Since taking office, the Shapiro Administration has awarded over $100 million in statewide grants to support volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services, and rescue squads. Governor Shapiro's 2026-27 proposed budget builds on this investment, proposing an additional $30 million to support recruitment, retention, and capital needs for volunteer and professional fire companies across Pennsylvania.
