March 31, 2026 - Harrisburg, PA
The Shapiro Administration, members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, and maternal health advocates will unveil the Commonwealth's Maternal Health Strategic Action Plan, entitled 'Healthy Moms, Vibrant Futures' at Hamilton Health Center. The new report outlines work in progress and ongoing strategies developed based on feedback from women across Pennsylvania to combat high rates of maternal mortality, especially among Black women, and to alleviate barriers pregnant women in Pennsylvania experience getting the prenatal and postpartum care they and their children need to live healthier lives. The event will convene subject matter experts and leadership from the Shapiro Administration including Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen, Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID) Insurance Commissioner Mike Humphreys, and members of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Women and Pennsylvania General Assembly to voice the unique maternal health needs of the populations they serve and celebrate the completion of the strategic action plan. Staff from Hamilton Health Center and other local community organizations will be on hand with information on their services to mothers and families.
