Education Secretary Pedro A. Rivera announced today that Joseph Welch, a middle school teacher in the North Hills School District in Allegheny County, has been named the 2020 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made during the SAS Institute, the Pennsylvania Department of Education's annual professional development conference. 'Teachers make a difference every day in the lives of their students by inspiring and motivating them to learn,' said Governor Tom Wolf. 'It is my pleasure to congratulate Mr. Welch on receiving this distinguished honor and to thank the Teacher of the Year candidates and all educators for their dedication and service to our students.'
