The Army vs. Coast Guard was held on Military Appreciation Day at the 109th PA Farm Show. The event is a cooking competition presented in collaboration between PA Preferred and Comcast NBC Universal. In celebration of this day, we honored active, reserve and retired service members by conducting an "Iron Chef" style culinary competition, involving Senior Chief Jason Rohrs Special Command Aide Program Manager, Office of the Commandant, USCG and Mr. Marc Ferraro, Executive Deputy Secretary for the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs and a US Army Veteran, as well as local media personalities, including Ali Lanyon and Dan Tomaso from WHTM abc27, Mike Miller from BOB 94.9 and Glenn Hamilton from The River 97.3. A four-person judging panel evaluated the final dishes, including John Moeller, former White House Chef and Author of "Dining at the White House - From the President's Table to Yours", Stacy Garrity, State Treasurer for the State of PA, Paul Hill, Executive Sous Chef - PA Governor's Residence and Virgil King, Regional Vice President, Field Operations, Comcast Keystone Region.Each team was composed of a Military Chef and two local media personalities. Each team received a bin with ingredients (protein, starch, vegetable, etc.) and a common pantry of ingredients to work with. Each team had 30 minutes to come up with the most appealing PA Preferred dish, utilizing mainly PA-sourced ingredients. Each team was tasked with preparing 4 plates (one for each of the judges).
